Redefining the Self-Love Formula

Giulia Baldini wrote, “Self-love means embracing the highest level of respect for yourself within your best capabilities."

We are totally feeling this quote as we continue to celebrate February and the month of LOVE. We all have that something that make us feel good or helps us create experiences that really embody self-love. There are also other ways that we can be intentional about respecting ourselves that we may need reminders of too.

In honour of Oma's Love Yourself Event on February 25th, we wanted to open up the conversation about what these could be or could look like for anyone. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Have fun creating theme playlists and include:

- Songs that remind you of the confident bad-ass you are

- Songs that make you happy and get you dancing no matter what mood you're in

- Songs from an event or time in you life that conjure up feelings of warmth and joy

- Songs that soothe, help you unwind, and/or stir something deep within you

Assess your home:

- Only keep the clothes that make you feel comfortable, confident, and YOU

- Clear out cosmetics or personal care items that make you feel ashamed, unworthy, or promise to "fix" something about you that doesn't need fixing

- Donate or recycle anything that you are keeping out of guilt, fear, or obligation - anything that brings you negativity

- Embrace colours, patterns, and styles that YOU love wearing or being surrounded by, despite current trends or influencers

Model self-love to your children:

- Give yourself time to finish your own tasks or self-care rituals (ie, "I'm in the middle of something and will play with you when I'm done in 5 minutes")

- Compliment yourself and/or be gracious when someone compliments you

- Create rituals for yourself and consistently follow them (eg, a 5-minute evening meditation, a weekly home facial)

- Be mindful of language you use on yourself like eating "bad food", "being lazy" for not exercising, or "I'm such a [insert unkind/expletive word here]!" for forgetting something at work

Invest in YOU!

- Take a course, learn a new skill, or explore a hobby that interests you and/or helps you towards a goal

- Buy items that are meaningful for you or that genuinely bring you joy

- Do a regular digital detox and unfollow or mute people, brands, influencers, etc who make you feel negatively about yourself

- Unapologetically say no to anyone or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable

Love Yourself!

- Embrace random dance parties and sing louder in the shower

- Take an extra five minutes in the bathtub or shower and just BE in the water

- Smile at your reflection, give yourself a high-five, or even blow a kiss

- Write a fun daily or weekly mantra

- Try out a fancy new recipe or a gourmet ingredient/product

- Move your body everyday

- Stand up straight and tall

- Make time for laughter - watch movies/television or listen to podcasts that make you laugh, or read a funny self-help book

- Write yourself a love letter

- Create something from scratch - start a garden, a DIY project, an art piece, or writing that story that's been in your head

- Spend more time with people who light you up, energize you, and help elevate your true self

- Do more puzzles and brain teasers to keep your mind sharp

- Add more colourful foods to your diet

- Remember that how you choose to spend your time and energy is always up to you

- Have intentional quiet time

- Put your phone away after 9pm

What would you add to the list? We'd love to know how YOU practice loving yourself and share it with our Oma community!
