Chiropractic Care for Animals
Dogs, cats and other furry creatures can benefit from chiropractic as well. It can be difficult for pet owners to know if their fur baby could use care, but in general, pets suffering from stiffness, arthritis, sports injuries, periods of cage rest or confinement and post-surgical soreness can benefit tremendously.
Here are some other signs to look for:
Change in mood (sad, grumpy, aggression) or behaviour
Disinterest or inability to do usual activities
Showing sensitivity or watching while being touched or groomed
Muscle atrophy or wasting
"Hunched" or sagging spine
Difficulty going up/down stairs/furniture
Limping
Excessive licking of limb
Difficulty getting up off the floor
Splaying/slipping legs on the floor
Incontinence
Keeping head low or tucking the tail under
Vestibular disease or balance issues
Sitting with legs to one side
Difficulty squatting or lifting a leg to urinate
Standing with back legs in wide or narrow stance
Reluctance to wear collars and harnesses
Decreased or changed performance in an athlete
Abnormal gait includes short-striding, overreaching, side-winding, crabbing, bunny-hopping, pacing, stumbling and head-bobbing.
Just seems "off"
It is important to note that chiropractic is not an alternative to veterinary care but rather a complement to it. Optimally, the chiropractor and veterinarian can collaborate to provide the most integrative care possible for your pet.
