Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine is a philosophy and practice of health care that encourages the healing potential of the body and mind through the use of natural therapies. Naturopathic medicine is a fusion of traditional wisdom and modern scientific study with an emphasis on patient-centered care. Your Naturopathic care will be individualized to meet your needs, to prevent and treat disease, and to help you achieve your goals for amazing, vibrant health.
Our naturopath uses a variety of natural therapies to support health and encourage healing. Working integrally with your other health care providers, our naturopath builds her treatments on the cornerstone of a healthy, nutritious diet and active lifestyle. Additional therapies such as acupuncture, botanical (herbal medicine), nutritional supplementation and homeopathy may also be used to nourish the body and help you be your best, balanced, healthiest self.
The initial consultation is 90 minutes in length (60 minutes for children). During the initial intake an extensive health history is taken – emphasis is put on your current symptoms, past symptoms, diet, lifestyle, personal and family medical history and obstacles to optimal health. A physical exam is also performed in the first visit and laboratory testing may be requested. At the end of the initial consultation you will have an outline of your treatment plan – first steps to be taken, goals for treatment, a guiding vision for future steps and recommendations for how to monitor progress. Follow up consults are 30-45 minutes in length and are scheduled according to your individualized treatment plan. During a follow up visit you will discuss short and long term treatment goals, build on your successes and develop plans to overcome any obstacles to health. On-going monitoring of symptoms and, when indicated, laboratory testing will also be completed.
Naturopathic Medicine is regulated in Ontario by the Regulated Health Practitioners Act (RHPA) and College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). Naturopathic Medicine is covered by most extended insurance plans. Contact your insurance provider to check for your coverage.
