Hot Drinks & Rituals with Oma

We have often talked about how much we love rituals at Oma and how they ground us during uncertainty or through times of overwhelm. But rituals also serve as part of our routines: ones that bring us comfort, set us up for the day, or a moment for ourselves where we can just be.

Fall seems to be the time where we gravitate towards rituals a little more. The sense of warmth and comfort that we get from these old faithfuls may stem from the reprieve that we want from colder weather – and there’s nothing like a hot drink to keep the chills away. Studies have shown just how positively they can affect us on a multitude of levels, including reducing inflammation, supporting immunity, improving digestion, encouraging relaxation, boosting mood, and relieving stress.

Even more telling is that many of us have that “special mug” at home: the go-to for our hot drinks that is the perfect weight, has the most comfortable handle, and just so gosh-darn cute! We all have that one mug that just feels like it’s been made for us, and have extended the ritual by drinking around the same time in the afternoon, always in the same room, alone or with the company of another, or as we catch up on the day’s news first thing in the morning. We have created a mindful moment out of the simple task of drinking a hot beverage: engaging our senses, pausing, and taking our time to enjoy warmth in a cup.

This month we asked our community and staff about their favourite hot drinks during the fall, and we had a wonderful mix of sweet, savoury, and seasonal that we shared on our Instagram stories. We are linking two recipes below that were inspired by some of our staff faves, and hope you will enjoy them just as much as we do. Here’s to welcoming the colder season ahead!

Dr. Adrienne loves a good bone broth for all its health benefits! This Bone Broth Recipe is pretty detailed and labour intensive, but the results are worth it.

This Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer is a yummy compliment to a cup of coffee or even chai. Perfect for the pumpkin lover looking for a less sweet, dairy-free alternative.
